Report: RUSAL resumes alumina production in Guinea

MOSCOW, Jun 21 (PRIME) -- Russian aluminum giant UC RUSAL has resumed alumina production at the Friguia refinery in Guinea, which was closed in April 2012, Bloomberg reported Thursday.

The refinery will produce 650,000 tonnes of alumina annually, Minister of Mines and Geology Abdoulaye Magassouba said.

RUSAL and Guinea agreed to resume operations of the Friguia bauxite and alumina complex in January 2017.

RUSAL also prepared a project to expand the complex’s production capacity to 1.05 million tonnes per year. The sides will make a decision on the project by the end of 2020.
